Backup Iterations

Backing up data and other files is an essential practice to insure against the loss of valuable information. How often you make backups will depend on the type of data to be backed up.

As well as our 12 hourly local backups we also take an offsite backup up to 4 times every single day, depending on the care plan you've taken out with us. This includes a free license for WP Time Capsule (worth $49 a year).

Information about your website's backups is included in your detailed site report.

Backup Retention

Backup retention refers to how long your backups are kept (their retention). We hold up to a 365 day backup archive, depending on the care plan you've taken out with us.

This is really helpful if you've made a number of changes to your site over time but then want to restore it to an older version. As long as the version you want to go back to lies within your backup archive we'll be able to restore it for you.

Backup Restoration

There are many reasons you might want to roll your website back to a previous version. It could be an honest mistake that you accidentally deleted an important file or installed an incompatible plugin.

With our backup archives we'll be able to restore your website quickly with the click of a button!

Site Uptime

We monitor the uptime of your website every minute, every day, ensuring it is always online. If for any reason it isn't, we'll know right away and start work to get it back online as quickly as possible.

Information about your website uptime is included in your detailed site report, but we'll also set up a status page for you where you can see the status of your website. See our status page (linked in the page footer) as an example.

File Changes

We scan all of the files used by your website up to hourly, depending on the care plan you've taken out with us, and get reports showing what's change since the last scan.

Changes to site files can mean a security compromise. If we or you didn't make any changes to your site's content and files and yet something's changed, it's an alarm bell.

We'll know if what we're seeing in the reports is correct or not, and if not we'll immediately investigate the changes.

Mixed Content

People are now very aware of the little padlock symbol on their browser when they visit websites. Mixed content errors mean the padlock symbol isn't displayed and can potentially scare away visitors from your website. Visitors leaving your website on finding errors is not good for the website's search engine ranking and could also affect your website's revenue.

We regularly scan your entire website to ensure that there aren't any insecure internal links. If we find any we'll fix them for you.

SSL Certificate Health

SSL certificates are a type of digital certificate that provide authentication for a website and enable an encrypted connection. They're what makes the little padlock symbol show in your browser when you visit a secure website.

We regularly check the health of your website's SSL certificate, making sure it isn't going to expire soon, changes to your website's SSL certificate, and more importantly we validate the SSL certificate chain, making sure nothing's been revoked or distrusted, causing your website to be insecure.

Information about your website's SSL certificate is included in your detailed site report.

Blacklist

If your domain is blacklisted, it means that you get into the spam list and your domain’s reputation has dropped. A blacklist is a list that includes blocked domains and IP addresses that can’t be accessed by users directly, and servers block emails from such domains.

We check your website daily (business days only) against multiple blacklists, including Google Safe Browsing and PhishTank, to make sure your website isn't listed. If it is we'll let you know straight away so that you can take action.

Information about your website's blacklist status is included in your detailed site report.

Domain Details

Domain hijacking is the act of changing the registration of a domain name without the permission of the original owner, or by abuse of privileges on domain hosting and domain registrar systems. This can be devastating to the domain name owner's business with wide ranging financial, reputational, and regulatory effects.

We regularly check your domain details - such things as the registrar, when it was last updated, and of course when it expires. Keeping a regular check on this information means you won't forget to renew your domain when it's needed.

Information about your website's domain details is included in your detailed site report.

Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a group of tools and reports to help measure your website's search traffic and performance, and any issues Google identifies on your website.

You'll be able to see which queries users use to find your website, analyse your website's impressions, clicks and position on Google Search, and much more.

Depending on the care plan you've taken out with us, we can set up Google Search Console for you, and we'll monitor it for any issues and fix them for you.

Contact Form Testing

It's all well and good having a contact form on your website, ready for visitors to contact you about your business. But what use is it if it's not actually working properly?

We'll test your website's forms on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us) so that you can be sure you're not missing out on potential customers.

WooCommerce Support

Most companies that offer WordPress website maintenance/care plans charge more to maintain WooCommerce websites, but you'll be pleased to hear that we don't find a need for that.

The fact is, the effort required to maintain a WooCommerce website is not much different to a normal WordPress website. This is why all of our care plans include WooCommerce support.

That said, important things to consider when choosing a care plan with us for your WooCommerce website are backup iterations and retention, both of which are dependent on the care plan you take out with us.

Information about your Woocommerce store is included in your detailed site report.

Support Hours Discount

As part of our commitment to offer affordable services, our Premium and Advanced care plans offer discounts on any additional support hours you might need.

This can be used for anything from testing a new plugin, creating a new page template, or asking advice.

Customer Portal Access

A dedicated and secure area where you'll be able to view all of your quotes and invoices, raise support tickets if you need help, and view our ever-growing knowledge base to help you get the most out of your WordPress website.

You'll also get a snapshot of your website's content, plugins, and more, all on your account page.

Premium Plugins

As part of your WordPress care plan you'll benefit from free licenses to a number of premium plugins worth $354 a year, as long as you have an active care plan with us.

If you decide to cancel your WordPress care plan, it is your responsibility to purchase new licenses for these once you have requested to cancel.

With our backup archives we'll be able to restore your website quickly with the click of a button!

Managed Hosting

You may already have a host you're more than happy with, which is great. We can still provide you with our care plan services without any problems.

That said, we provide free hosting with all of our care plans, and more importantly, we don't expect you to deal with all the technical hosting stuff as we do that for you.

Our hosting is fully managed which means we deal with the technical aspects of both your website and hosting while you focus on what's important to you: your business.

Website Migration

We understand that it can be a hassle to move your website to a different host, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you.

If you decide to move your website to our managed hosting when you take out a care plan with us, you don't need to worry about figuring out how to move the site yourself.

We'll migrate one site onto our servers for free when you take out your care plan with us.

All of your content and databases (pages, posts, plugins, settings and graphics) will move across seamlessly!

GDPR/Cookie Scan

The GDPR applies to all websites with visitors from EU countries and levies significant fines for non-compliance.

We'll carry out audits of your website's cookies, online tracking and HTTPS usage on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us) to make sure that your website is compliant.

Information about GDPR/cookie scans is included in your detailed site report.

Termageddon Policies

We've teamed up with Termageddon to help you comply with privacy laws such as the CPRA, GDPR, UK DPA, CalOPPA, PIPEDA, and more. We'll also help you comply with consumer protection laws, provide eCommerce disclosures, and limit your liability.

When you embed a Termageddon policy on your website, it will be automatically updated with newly required policies whenever the laws change.

Your care plan includes a free Termageddon license (worth $119 a year).

Site Uptime

We monitor the uptime of your website every minute, every day, ensuring it is always online. If for any reason it isn't, we'll know right away and start work to get it back online as quickly as possible.

Uptime Status Page

Using your uptime status page you can see everything what's gone on with the availability of your website. Not only that, you can subscribe to receive emails if we post updates about server maintenance etc. so you'll always be in the know if we need to carry out extended maintenance.

Website Changes

Hackers won't necessarily attack your front page. They'll often inject back links and/or content on other pages of your website, potentially pages you don't view very often.

We'll monitor up to 50 pages of your website, depending on the care plan you've taken out with us, and do a visual comparison to make sure that nothing's changed since we last checked. If changes are found we'll review them and make sure you're aware of the changes in case they weren't changes you'd made. This includes a free license for Visual Regression Tests (worth $72 a year).

Speed Optimisations

Speed is very important for a website, and not just for the user. It’s so important in fact that Google has made it a ranking factor for its search listings.

We'll do some work on the backend of your website to improve its loading speed. Some of these optimisations involve installing and setting up a caching plugin, installing and setting up an image optimisation plugin, and other customisations.

We have a suite of optimisation plugins we know and trust, and use on all of our websites. These include free licenses for WP Rocket (worth £35 a year), Imagify (worth £70 a year), and OMGF PRO (worth £25 a year).

Database Optimisation

As well as removing lots of unwanted information from your database, we'll also optimise the various tables on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us).

This cleans up more unwanted data which reduces database size and improves its performance.

Information about your website's database optimisation is included in your detailed site report.

Performance Scan

We'll carry out a performance scan of your website on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us) to see how well your website is performing.

We'll test page loading time and also check to see if there are any problems being highlighted.

If issues are found we'll work to fix them as quickly as possible.

Information about your website's performance is included in your detailed site report.

Detailed Site Report

If we're doing our job right you shouldn't notice all of the hard work we do for you every month as your website should just work.

All well and good but we want to be transparent about the work we've done so you can see the value you get in taking out a care plan with us, so we'll send you a detailed client report on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us). This report will keep you in touch with what's happening with your site.

Detailed SEO Report

If we're monitoring keywords for you, you'll receive a detailed SEO report on a regular basis.

Not only will this show you how your chosen keywords are performing over time, it'll also show you general SEO health of your entire website, backlink history, and any recommendations we have to help you improve your website's SEO performance.

Free SSL Certificate

SSL gives a secure https connection to your site, meaning all information is encrypted, which is now an important ranking factor for Google and its search rankings.

Please note that free SSL certificates are only available to websites we host on our servers.

Security Plugin Setup

If you're not sure how to secure your WordPress website properly we're here to help.

We have a suite of security plugins we know and trust, and use on all of our websites. This includes a free license for Clean Talk Security (worth $9 a year).

Nobody can 100% guarantee that your site will never be compromised, but we've not had one yet with our layered approach to website security and regular monitoring and scanning.

2-Factor Authentication

2-factor authentication is an extra layer of security used to make sure that people trying to gain access to your website are who they say they are.

Instead of immediately gaining access using a username/email and password, users will be required to provide another piece of information (a token) from a 2-factor authentication app on their smartphone or computer.

The token is typically valid for less than a minute, and because the code is generated and displayed on the same device they remove the chance of hacker interception.

Best of all, since app-based 2-factor authentication apps are available for mobile, wearables, or desktop platforms - and even work offline - user authentication is possible just about everywhere.

IP Blocking

IP blocking is a type of website security that blocks specific IP addresses or ranges of IP address from browsing your website and performing potentially malicious activities.

When we see attacks or malicious activity occurring we can immediately add the offending IP addresses to your blacklist. Requests will be blocked within seconds, protecting both your website and your visitors.

Whitelist IP

If you connect to the internet using a static IP address - like from your office - you can add that IP address to a whitelist. This means that traffic from that IP address to your website will never be blocked by the firewall as it is a trusted IP address.

The vast majority of home IP addresses aren't static so it's not advisable to do this for your home IP address as they can be reassigned to other people so caution must be used when configuring this in the firewall.

Firewall

All of our hosting servers are protected by Imunify360 and ModSecurity. This means our servers use automated malware scanning and cleanup and an advanced web application firewall (WAF) with machine-learning intrusion detection and protection to protect your website.

In addition to the server level protection we also install and configure a software firewall on your website. This acts as a shield between your website and all incoming traffic. It will monitor your website traffic and block many common security threats before they reach your WordPress site.

Brute Force Protection

A brute force attack is an attempt to discover a password by trying a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols until the correct combination is found. If successful, a brute force login attack enables the attacker to hack your account, log in to your site and steal information.

Using a combination of 2-factor authentication, limiting login re-tries, adding a delay between allowed login attempts and blocking IP addresses we protect you website against this type of attack.

Update Security Keys

WordPress Security Keys are a set of random variables that improve encryption of information stored in the user’s cookies. If an attacker manages to gain access to a session cookie, they can retain access to the website even after a password is reset.

We configure your WordPress website to regenerate these security keys on a regular basis. If an attacker did manage to gain access to a session cookie this will no longer work once the keys have been regenerated.

Force Strong Passwords

By default WordPress recommends a strong password whenever you forget your password, create a new user or simply want to reset your password. That said, users can still use weak passwords as they are given the option to do so, but having an administrator or editor level user with a weak password can present a security risk.

We can configure your website to enforce the use of strong passwords for user accounts, giving another level of security to your important information.

Audit Log

Knowing what's going on on your website can be critical when things go wrong. Knowing what's happened recently can help to figure out what went wrong, who did it, and how to fix it.

An audit log is a simple solution to a complex problem – the need to know what's happening on your website.

Once your site starts to grow, keeping track of everything that occurs can be difficult. However, using our audit log enables you to store all of the data about your website's activity you need.

Connect Analytics

Analytics presents valuable information about your website, how it's used by others, and also how it's found by people who visit it. It highlights traffic, errors and much more.

If you don't have analytics on your website we can set it up for you.

Information about analytics is included in your detailed site report.

Keyword Ranking

Monitor up to 50 keywords or phrases (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us) to see how well your target terms are doing over a period of time.

Information about your monitored keywords is included in your detailed SEO report.

Managed Core Updates

WordPress, or WordPress core as it is sometimes referred to, are the files that your website is built upon. WordPress automates some of its core updates, especially the more critical ones; the rest, however, it leaves to its users to handle.

Updates don't always go smoothly. Code in one piece of software can conflict with others, causing part of your website to break or the whole thing to go down entirely. Without some handholding and close monitoring of each update, your visitors may be presented with misaligned content or broken functionality.

Your WordPress updates are performed on a regular basis and we make sure that they are safely handled during low-traffic hours, ensuring the updates have not adversely affected the security, performance, or user experience of your site. If we see anything unexpected we'll roll back the changes and investigate further.

Information about core updates is included in your detailed site report.

Managed Plugin Updates

If you use WordPress there's a good chance that you've installed plugins to satisfy your particular needs on your website. There are thousands of plugins and themes available, but installing a plugin is just the first step.

Like any other software installed on your computer, or application on your devices, developers release updates which provide new features or fix known bugs or security issues.

Your plugin updates are performed on a regular basis, ensuring the updates have not adversely affected the security, performance, or user experience of your site. If we see anything unexpected we'll roll back the changes and investigate further.

Information about plugin updates is included in your detailed site report.

Managed Theme Updates

A WordPress theme changes the design of your website. Changing your theme changes how your site looks on the front-end, i.e. what a visitor sees when they browse to your site.

Like WordPress Core and plugins, themes also get regular bug fixes and updates which need to be applied to your website.

Your theme updates are performed on a regular basis, ensuring the updates have not adversely affected the security, performance, or user experience of your site. If we see anything unexpected we'll roll back the changes and investigate further.

Information about theme updates is included in your detailed site report.

Broken Link Check

When visitors follow links to/from your website they are expecting certain content to be available once the page has loaded. Broken links are not only bad for user experience but can also be harmful when it comes to your website's search engine ranking.

We scan your website for broken links on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us) and depending on the care plan you've taken out with us, this also includes fixing any broken links found on your website.

Spam/Trash Clean-up

WordPress uses a database to store all of the information and content used by your website. If you've been using WordPress for a while there's a very good chance your database is filled with information you no longer need.

Cleaning up your database not only helps speed up your site so it loads faster, but it can also clear up significant space in your database so it runs more efficiently.

We'll delete all post revisions, auto drafts, trash, and spam from your website on a regular basis (dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us) ensuring your database runs as smoothly as possible.

Staging Environment

A staging environment is a clone of your live website. It lets you test any changes or major new features in a secure environment without affecting your real website. Basically, a staging environment gives you the opportunity to catch errors and bugs without putting your website at risk.

If you want to test out some new page designs, or test a new plugin to see how it works on your website, we can quickly set up a staging environment for you, depending on the care plan you've taken out with us.

Minor Site Updates

All of our care plans include time for minor site updates. The amount of time available each month is dependent on the care plan you've taken out with us.This time can be used for general content updates (e.g. copy changes, image editing) within the WordPress interface, advice with all things WordPress, and assistance with the WordPress interface and existing features/functions.

This time only covers content updates and WordPress guidance, not code, development or troubleshooting. It also can't be rolled over into the next month.
